Queen Iden’s legacy is an immense sacrifice for the restoration of the Benin monarchy.
During a crisis when the Benin Chiefs rebelled against her husband, Oba Ewuakpe, Queen Iden stood by him and refused to leave the palace.
The complexity of the situation led her to make the ultimate sacrifice: she was buried alive. Her unwavering loyalty and courage left an indelible mark on Benin’s history.
